Big Dummy

September 8, 2008

Have you ever seen anything quite like this?!? It is the Big Dummy made by Surly. It is the ideal machine for the cyclist that plans to never get behind the wheel of the car. The frame has a longer wheel base (it takes two chains put together to reach from the cranks to the cassette) and is designed to work with the Xtracycle range of accessories. Their bits and pieces are designed to make it covenient for you (or in this case Konrad) to load all of the items that you’d usually put in your car on your bike!

Konrad’s older daughter rides on the deck behind his seat. His little girl rides in the trailer. It is an awesome sight to see the three of them riding around WS. When you see them, give ’em a wave and let them remind us that we can all do a little something for ourselves and the environment by leaving the car parked and hopping on the bike once in while. For a few more pics, you can check out the Mobilts section of the gallery.

To check out a few more transportation oriented bikes, you can visit our friend at Kona. The Ute is similar to the Big Dummy. The Africa Bike is more your standard head to the market bike complete with basket. The Smoke and the Dew are great commuters. The Paddy Wagon is just plain cool.
