Orchard Gap Ride

September 2, 2019

Perfect day for riding on some of my favorite roads! My route today was Mt Airey, NC to Meadows of Dan, Va. and back. By way of Ward’s Gap Road to Orchard Gap and The Blue Ridge Parkway. My destination was The Poor Farmer’s Market owned by my friend Felecia Shelor. I rode up as she was just about to leave to pick up some more peaches. I was able to say hello for just a minute. It’s been six years since I last rode to this store, chatted with Felecia, and had a Hungry Hill Billy sandwich from the deli there. I rode my Pinarello today since it is the only bike I have that has a 39×25 gear on it. My other bikes have 39×23. I used to ride these hills all the time with a 39×23 or 39×21. Today I struggled on the climb. Not sure what has changed. The temerature on the parkway was 78 degrees today. Just another great adventure on my bicycle. Next time I need to take at least one other cyclist with me!
